UNC Health Championship

Each year, CRC is a proud sponsor of the UNC Heath Championship at Raleigh Country Club and this year was incredible. We had the opportunity to sponsor the Hickory Club Hospitality Tent located on the 17th green, equipped with complimentary food provided by Empire Eats, a variety of drink options, snacks, fantastic viewing area of the course, and covered seating. The tournament was June 1st-4th in Raleigh, NC and CRC was excited to be there each day cheering on the talented golfers and talking with each guest. From the very start of the tournament, we knew it was going to be filled with excitement and fun for everyone in the Hickory Club.  By the close of day 4, we were thrilled to congratulate Jorge Fernandez-Valdes, who secured his first win on the Korn Ferry Tour.

Thank you to everyone who made this tournament a success and hope to see you on the course next year.

CRIMINALRECORDCHECK.COM ACHIEVES BACKGROUND SCREENING CREDENTIALING COUNCIL RE-ACCREDITATION

For Immediate Release

CRIMINALRECORDCHECK.COM ACHIEVES BACKGROUND SCREENING CREDENTIALING COUNCIL RE-ACCREDITATION

RALEIGH, N.C., July 2021 – The Professional Background Screening Association (PBSA®) Background Screening Credentialing Council (BSCC) announced today that CriminalRecordCheck.com has successfully demonstrated continued compliance with the Background Screening Agency Accreditation Program (BSAAP) and is recognized as BSCC-Accredited.

“It is with great pride that CriminalRecordCheck.com (CRC) acknowledges its BSCC re-accreditation through the PBSA. CRC’s re-accreditation confirms our commitment to consumer protection, data security and operating at the highest industry standards. I am proud and thankful for everyone here at CRC who helped out and contributed to the Re-accreditation Task Force.  Job well done!”

– Dorian D. Dehnel, President

Each year, U.S. employers, organizations and governmental agencies request millions of consumer reports to assist with critical business decisions involving background screening.  Background screening reports, which are categorized as consumer reports, are currently regulated at both the federal and state level.

Since its inception, PBSA has maintained that there is a strong need for a singular, cohesive industry standard and, therefore, created the BSAAP.  Governed by a strict professional standard of specified requirements and measurements, the BSAAP is becoming a widely recognized seal of achievement that brings national recognition to background screening organizations (also referred to as Consumer Reporting Agencies).  This recognition will stand as the industry “seal,” representing a background screening organization’s commitment to excellence, accountability, high professional standards and continued institutional improvement.

The BSCC oversees the application process and is the governing accreditation body that validates the background screening organizations seeking accreditation meet or exceed a measurable standard of competence. To become accredited, consumer reporting agencies must pass a rigorous onsite audit, conducted by an independent auditing firm, of its policies and procedures as they relate to six critical areas:  consumer protection, legal compliance, client education, product standards, service standards, and general business practices.

Any U.S.-based employment screening organization is eligible to apply for accreditation. A copy of the standard, the policies and procedures, and measurements is available at www.thepbsa.org.

Update: Michigan Supreme Court Pushed Back the Effective Date of the Rule Redacting DOBs on Public Records to January 1, 2022

The State of Michigan has issued a proposed rule that may have unintended negative consequences for potential job candidates and employers. On 01/01/2022, redaction requirements in ADM File No. 2020-26 will go into effect, resulting in Date of Births (DOBs) no longer being listed on public records. Many background screening firms rely on identifying information including (but not limited to) the DOB to provide timely and accurate background checks to end user clients. This helps to ensure that job candidates can be thoroughly vetted while not causing an unnecessary delay to the hiring process.

Employers, especially those located in or doing business in Michigan, should be aware of the impact that this new rule could potentially have on their business. Without access to basic identifying information like DOBs on court records, background screeners may be unable to verify if a criminal record truly belongs to a candidate. This puts employers at risk of hiring an individual who will create an unsafe working environment. Furthermore, because regulations require many employers to verify criminal history for some positions, some of these same employers may be legally barred from hiring Michigan residents for those openings.

It should be noted that, while records at the court level are being redacted, other state agency resources are unaffected by this rule change. While that may be the case, public records at the court level are generally the best source of information due to their level of completeness and accessibility.

If you’re an employer in Michigan or you start experiencing delays with your background checks out of Michigan after January 1, 2022, contact us at sales@mycrc.com to discuss alternative options for getting these reports back.
